PROJECT: Big Hype

MARKETING SPEAK:

Aren't we as creators tired of how the comics industry is run? The need to know someone in order to greenlight a project. The asinine pre-order system. Day and date digital being priced the same as digital. The mountain of industry open secrets that hurts new, diverse, and poor creators. Let's try something new. Let's try an experiment. PROJECT: Big Hype.

WHAT IS IT?

400 page long crowdfunded collection of stories, ranging from shorts to longer pieces. Think Shonen Jump for western comics. We want to blend the biggest indie comics creators with the freshest manga creators. Established creators will have 20 page stories. While newer talent will get 5-10 page short stories or project pitches. The hope is that the establish creators will bring in the eyeballs to the product, allowing the newer talent to possibly have fans to spin off their shorts or pitches to their own crowdfund next year.

WHO YOU GOT?

We have pre-invited some indie comics creators to be involved.

PITCHES:

No longer than one page google doc. We want to read the beginning, middle and ending of the whole story. Don't try to tease or hide things from us. Leave that for the readers. Only a certain number of spaces are available, so we may decline stories for reasons of overlapping theme rather than quality. You can only submit 1 story pitch. No creators can resubmit with a different team. NOTE: NO art, concept art, completed comics** allowed for pitching. NO copyright characters allowed. (fanfic is cool, just not for this) In fairness to all creators, pitches will be accepted on strength of of pitch and team. Any submissions that do not follow this will be deleted and a form letter letting you know that you can not read directions will be sent.

NEWER TALENT, you will be pitching 5-10 page short stories or pitches for longer projects*. Please include title of your story. Your full name and names of all the team member if applicable. Please include at least one social media account/website url to be included in the book. All artists need to include link to a digital portfolio. NOTE: All writers must build their own teams for this as we do not have the time to match creators.

ESTABLISHED TALENT, will be invited to pitch longer stories. Up to 20 pages. If you are an established creator or team and wish to do a longer story, please send a query dm to @BighypeC on twitter. If you are an established creator wanting to be teamed with a team, please let us know and we will attempt to pull a team together.

DISTRIBUTION:

Current plan is to crowdfund a small print run of the book.

RIGHTS AND OWNERSHIP:

COMPENSATION

With the current goal to current plan to crowdfund the project, succeed or fail goal, each member of the team will receive 3 copies of the book. If the project goes past the goal to fund a print run, money will be split and distributed to teams based on amount of pages contributed to project.
